Boot Up & Power Management
From an off state, a Clarius Ultrasound Scanner can take up to 30 seconds to power up and prepare for imaging. If you turn on the Clarius Scanner HD3 and leave it untouched, it will go through the following modes to help reduce battery power and temperature:
- After three seconds, it decreases frame rate.
- After 30 seconds of decreased frame rate, it freezes.
- After 10 seconds in freeze mode, it goes idle.
- After 15 minutes of idle time, it shuts down.
A typical use of the Clarius Scanner HD3 is described as 5 continuous scanning minutes followed by 10 minutes in standby mode (or turned off). When scanning for more than 15 consecutive minutes with any Clarius Scanner HD3, the fan must be used to ensure the temperature threshold is not reached. For information on the fan, see Clarius Power Fan HD3.
If the scanner becomes too warm, it will send a notification to the App and shut down in 30 seconds. The scanner model, selected application, and imaging mode, all affect the power consumption in different ways, therefore not every use case is exactly the same.
As use cases may vary dramatically, the scanners are designed with flexible options and parameters to operate in many different scenarios and power states.
Reminder:
- Notifications and alerts from third-party applications may interrupt you or the Clarius App,
thereby interfering with the exam. Configure your smart device in accordance with your
institution's security policies. - Vibration range that is too high for the scanner may cause the scanner to malfunction
during an exam. - Using improper gel type or combining different gel types may expose patients to risks and
produce poor-quality images. Do not use lotion-based products or gels that contain mineral oil, hand-sanitizing gels, and scanners left soaking in gel. - When using PAL HD3 with dual array technology, there will be an offset on the transducer
physical placement in the elevation axis. Due to the side-by-side physical arrangement of
the transducers, refer to the transducer elevation width center line for the linear array
when doing ultrasound guided injection procedure. - When using PAL HD3 with dual array technology, the preset selection will determine array
utilization. Care must be taken to avoid using the wrong preset when doing Ophthalmic
imaging (low MI/TI limit). Ensure appropriate preset has been selected before imaging
begins.
Scanner Notifications
The Clarius Ultrasound Scanner displays no error messages. Instead, the Clarius Scanner HD3
presents visual notifications in the form of status lights, and audible notifications in the form of
status alerts when using the latest Clarius App 12 version.
Status Lights
The following table defines the Clarius Scanner HD3’s status lights:
Color | Display | Meaning |
Blue | Flashing | Scanner is booting up. |
Blue | Solid | Scanner is ready for a Wi-Fi connection. |
Green | Flashing | Scanner is imaging and live ultrasound image is displayed via Clarius App (has ultrasound output). |
Green | Solid | Scanner is connected to the Clarius App via Wi-Fi and is ready to start imaging. |
Orange | Flashing | Battery is low. |
Orange | Solid | Scanner error (software or hardware). |
Purple | Flashing | Software/Firmware is updating. |
Audible Notifications
The below list defines the audible indicators the Clarius Scanner HD3 emits:
Sounds | Meaning |
2 quick beeps | Scanner components are ready |
3 quick beeps | Bluetooth is ready |
2 tone-increasing pitches | Power On |
2 tone-decreasing pitches | Power Off |
1 beep every few seconds | Battery is critically low |
Ringing | Find my scanner function engaged |
Factory Reset
To perform a factory reset:
- Ensure you are connected to the scanner within the Clarius App
- Enter the Status menu within the App
- Press Factory Reset and confirm
The scanner will reboot after a factory reset and will be connected automatically once selected in the scanner's page.
Performing a factory reset will do the following:
-
Reset saved router/WLAN configurations
- This may be required if you want to remove known networks from the scanner or if a router password has changed
-
Reset the scanner's Wi-Fi direct password and default channel.
- This may be required if Wi-Fi signal cannot be seen on the mobile device
-
Reset the stored system time.
- This may be required if the mobile device time was accidentally set to a future date, a scanner was connected to, and then the date changed back to the correct time
-
Reset the stored scanner settings to default
- These will automatically be reprogrammed again when the App next communicates with the scanner
HD3 Deep Sleep
As the Clarius HD3 does not have a removable battery, it may be desirable to completely cut the power to system circuitry. This can be accomplished when the scanner is in an off state (no LED) by holding the power button for an additional 3 seconds. Once successfully performed, 2 audible beeps can be heard, as described above. In some cases, if the firmware is not responding, and the beeps are not heard, pressing the power button for 10 seconds will engage a kill switch to force the system into a deep sleep.
In Deep Sleep mode, Bluetooth is turned off, and the scanner will not be seen within the Clarius App. To turn on once again, simply press the power button and the device will start it's initialization cycle.
Scanner Recovery
In rare cases, certain flash memory components on the device may become corrupted. These are typically detected and repaired automatically in the background, but it may be required to manually recover the scanner. The symptom can typically be traced to one the following scenarios:
- After a firmware update, a reboot yields a solid amber LED or constant reboot
- Booting the scanner flashes the blue LED for 30 seconds and then goes to solid orange
To recover the scanner:
- Quit and close the Clarius App completely by swiping it away (make sure it is not running in the background).
- Power down the scanner by pressing and holding the power button for 5-10 seconds.
- Press and hold both buttons until the LED on the side of the scanner turns purple (this may take up to 30 seconds).
- Once the LED turns purple, you can release both buttons.
- After the LED returns to normal (either unlit for 1 minute or more, or blinking/solid blue for over 30 seconds), try reconnecting to the scanner through the Clarius App.
- If prompted, allow the scanner to proceed with the software update. This may take up to 10 minutes, though it often completes in under 60 seconds.
Please be patient if the "establishing secure connection" loading bar reaching the end and pauses, as the scanner should connect after the recovery procedure.
