Two-factor authentication, also known as 2FA, increases the security of your account by requiring you to input an authentication code in addition to your email and password when you sign in. These authentication codes are generated by a 2FA app, such as Google Authenticator (available for iOS and Android devices) or Authy. You will need to install a 2FA app on to your smart device and have access to it every time you sign in.
The admin of your institutions may require you to enable two-factor authentication. If you are an admin, see this article on how to require two-factor authentication for your institution.
Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication for your Clarius Cloud
- Sign in to your Clarius Cloud.
- Click on Profile in the user menu.
- Go to the Security tab, and click on Set up two-factor authentication.
- In your 2FA app, add a new account (in Google Authenticator, this is the + button in the lower right-hand corner). You will be prompted to scan the QR code. If you are unable to scan the QR code, click on enter this text code and manually type it into the app.
Then, an Authentication Code needs to be entered after the code is created to verify the creation. The generated code from the 2FA device must be entered into the Authentication Code field before the 2FA setup can be completed.
- Once two-factor authentication is set up, you will need to enter an authentication code generated by your 2FA app every time you sign in. If you are unable to access your 2FA app (e.g. you do not have your smart device with the 2FA app with you, or you've lost the smart device), you can enter a recovery code to sign in.
Note: Save these recovery codes in a secure location and do not share them with othersIf you've lost your smart device, you should disable or reconfigure your 2FA app once you sign in. This can be done in the Security page in your user settings (see Steps 2 and 3).
Signing In with Two-Factor Authentication Enabled
- Sign in to your Clarius Cloud.
- You will be asked to enter an authentication code from your 2FA app.
Check your 2FA app for the Clarius Cloud authentication codes. These authentication codes are temporary, and are refreshed every 30 seconds. Enter one of these codes into the Authentication Code field in Clarius Cloud and click Submit.
