Clarius scanners are designed with magnesium shells and specialized heat dissipation technology that maximizes thermal efficiency. Depending on the model and revision, Clarius Scanners are designed for scans that range from 10 - 30 minutes in duration.
- First-generation scanners may reach a maximum time of continuous scanning after 15 - 20 minutes.
- Second-generation scanners (HD) may reach a maximum time of continuous scanning after 30 - 45 minutes.
- Third-generation scanners (HD3) may reach a maximum time of continuous scanning after 5 -15 minutes.
***A typical use of the Clarius Scanner HD3 is described as five continuous scanning minutes
followed by 10 minutes in standby mode (or turned off).
If the maximum temperature is reached, the App will display a message, and you will have 30 seconds before the scanner automatically shuts down. Once the device has a reduced temperature, you will be able to scan again.
For all cases, there are options to help increase continuous scanning time if a procedure is taking longer than expected, or if you are using the scanner for educational purposes. Options include:
- Purchasing the fan accessory to reduce heat generated on the surface. Fans turn on automatically after a certain temperature is reached, and draw minimal battery power to operate.

For all the third-generation scanners, when scanning for more than 15 consecutive minutes, the fan must be used.
Note that even if the scanner is off and not imaging, the fan may run to reduce temperature, depending on the current sensor readings.
